Over the last years, A/V technologies have made tremendous progress in quality, affordability, and consumer acceptance. Long gone are the days when A/V presentations were the exclusive domain of the executive elite. Today, PowerPoint presentations and video clips are a routinely used by middle managers, educators, and other public speakers. Tascam's new AV-452 is designed for this new breed of presenters.
The AV-452 is a combination of microphone/audio mixer, A/V switcher and power amplifier. The front panel is clean and intuitive and easier to use than a typical home A/V receiver. Yet for such a simple interface, there is a tremendous amount of integration and customization capability under the hood.
For example, the AV-452 main unit can learn IR commands for a projector or TV. Whenever an A/V source is selected on the AV-452, the IR code for that input can be sent to the TV or projector, thereby ensuring the proper video source is being shown. In addition, a learning universal remote is included, centralizing control over the AV-452 and up to four components.
For A/V installers, the AV-452 offers numerous options of control and customization. The AV-452 can integrate with building alarm systems and accept constant voltage speaker signals. Plus, there are two alternatives for creating external control functionality: buttons and LEDs can be attached to the AV-452's Relay Control port. Or the AV-452's serial control port can link with a media control system via RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 protocol.
The AV-452 is well equipped for a variety of environments and can easily be expanded. Its cascade input allows a second AV-452 or other mixer to be connected to add more signals. Or an external power amplifier may use this port to feed another room or multiple zones with seperate level control.
